Poker Hall of Famer Daniel Negreanu is embarking upon a new entertainment project, which is surprisingly unrelated to poker.

He and his wife, Amanda Negreanu (formerly Leatherman), will launch the Mania Podcast on YouTube on November 11 at noon PT to discuss distinctly non-poker subjects.

Daniel and Amanda Negreanu Launch Mania Podcast

Key Highlights

  • The Mania Podcast debuts on November 11 at noon PT on YouTube.
  • The first episode will be about how the couple met and Amanda’s bipolar diagnosis.
  • Daniel previously co-hosted the DAT Poker Podcast.

Talking About Everything but Poker

“We’ve been looking to do this for a while,” Daniel said in one of the teaser trailers the couple posted this past week. He added that they will both be in the YouTube comment section to interact with fans.

Daniel Negreanu has always been outspoken, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. In recent years, he has espoused more political views on his 569,000-follower X account, but the podcast topics won’t necessarily be political.

According to PokerNews, Daniel said the first episode will be about “how (Amanda and I) met and her bipolar diagnosis.”

Amanda Negreanu has been in the poker world for a long time, as well, most notably having hosted World Poker Tour broadcasts.

Daniel and Amanda Negreanu have been married since May 2019.

Previous Podcast Experience, Following Bode Well

It should be interesting to see how the Mania Podcast does and where it slots among the plethora of poker podcasts.

Of course, the Mania Podcast is not about poker, but considering the hosts are Daniel and Amanda Negreanu, it will, at least initially, draw a poker crowd.

And it should do well at the outset, as Daniel has 864,000 subscribers on YouTube.

He has experience as a podcaster, too, previously co-hosting the DAT Poker Podcast with Adam Schwartz and Terrance Chan. DAT Poker Podcast is, as one might guess by the name, poker-centric.

One of Poker’s All-Time Greats

Daniel Negreanu, who turned 50 this summer, isn’t really the kid that his “Kid Poker” nickname would have one believe. Just goes to show how long he has been a force in the poker world.

Known for both his skill and his willingness to chat it up at the tables, Negreanu is 7th on the all-time live tournament money list with over $54 million in earnings.

He is at or near the top of nearly every major poker tournament ranking: 1st in WSOP earnings ($22 million), 3rd in WSOP cashes (179), t-7th in WSOP bracelets (7), 2nd in WSOP top 10 finishes (61), and 2nd in WPT earnings ($6 million).

...it was just every reminder, like Buckner back in Shea Stadium. Every possible bad thing I’m thinking in my head. I can’t help it. I’m human.

– Daniel Negreanu

For all his success, though, Negreanu had a dubious poker streak. He went eight years without winning an open tournament, finally breaking the drought in 2021 with a victory in the PokerGO Cup.

“I’ve been a bridesmaid so many times,” he said after that win. “Just the demons and the ghosts in your brain, like when I’m heads up with [David Coleman in Event #7] and that three hit the turn, it was just every reminder, like Buckner back in Shea Stadium. Every possible bad thing I’m thinking in my head. I can’t help it. I’m human.”

The eight-year dry spell would also imply that Negreanu didn’t win a World Series of Poker event in that time. He finally ended that streak this summer with his first WSOP win in 11 years.

The $50,000 Poker Players Championship bracelet was not just his first WSOP title since 2013, but also his first WSOP bracelet in Las Vegas since 2008.
